Personally I would like to thank Mrs. Andri for giving me the opportunity to expose one of the most known Cypriot traditions. Her knowledge on the subject proved to be indispensable for the completion of the project. Truly passionate for her work and at the same time friendly to her clients at the shop, she was most helpful in going through the history and explaining the various designs of the Lefkara handicrafts. Her and her family made my long visits at Lefkara most enjoyable with their pleasant Cypriot hospitality. (Adamos and Andy... keep surfing, you are doing great!) Many thanks to the Lefkara ladies as well, who responded to our photography session with a great delight. I must admit it was a bit difficult to draw their attention off their work. Concentrated and fully devoted on what they are doing, they surely attract anyone’s attention and they managed to preserve this tradition throughout time, passing it over from mother to daughter. Last but not least, I wish to thank everyone who contributed in this project, my colleagues, the photo lab, the graphics designers and our text editor for her careful editing of the text. I hope that this web site gave you, the visitor, the chance to learn about the Lefkara lace and silver handicrafts and how the village of Lefkara will soon have the chance to accommodate you. Irrespective of the reason of your next trip to Cyprus, either for pleasure holidays or for business, do visit Lefkara and admire these handicrafts from close. Take care of yourselves, Alkis Poullis@Ledasoft, Winter 1997. |
